11.30am to 1.00pm
We are sorry but this event is now fully booked
A visit and ‘behind the scenes’ tour of this beautiful listed Edwardian swimming pool. Opened in 1907, it was an incentive for the people of Balsall Heath to join the newly created City of Birmingham. It is the only Grade II* listed pool still open for public swimming. Threatened with complete closure in the early 2000’s it was saved by ‘The Friends of Moseley Road Baths’. The efforts to save it have received a boost more recently with funding from the World Monuments Fund, The National Trust, and a new agreement with Birmingham City Council.
The timing of our visit allows us maximum access to spaces that remain publicly used. We will also see much of the other spaces which retain many of their amazingly original fittings and finishes.
With a new roof on the Gala Pool just being completed there is the feeling that this building will be saved as a very special heritage building and also a valuable community resource.
Cost £8.50 for TASBE members and £11.00 for non-members.
