A Backstage tour of the Rep

Thursday 7 November 2019

10.30am for 11.00am

Sorry Now Fully Booked

Our tour takes us on a journey behind the scenes of one of Britain’s premier, producing theatres.  The Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s origins were with the Pilgrim Players an amateur company  founded in 1907.  The company was successful and by 1913 it had become professional and was opening Britain’s first purpose built repertory theatre in Station Street.  By 1920  under its founder Barry Jackson it had become the country’s leading training ground for actors and actresses such as John Gielgud, Peggy Ashcroft and Laurence Olivier.

In 1971 the Rep moved to its present site where it has since undergone enlargements and improvements particularly in connection with the opening of the NEC and more recently when it became part of the new Library of Birmingham complex.  The Rep now has three auditoria where it continues in its commitment to new writing and productions, many of which  go on tour both nationally and internationally.

See how everything, from stage work, to wigs and wardrobes are created on site, with a good dash of Rep secrets and fascinating views of its varied past.

Meet in the ICC Starbucks from 10.30 am for coffee (not included) before the tour, or, at the Stage door by 11.00am.  The tour finishes at about 12.30pm.

£8.50 for TASBE members and £11.00 for non-members.
