Symphony Hall is an architectural triumph and one of the world’s best concert halls acoustically. It’s built in the traditional shoebox shape of the great 19th century halls, but with innovations developed by renowned acoustic consultant Russell Johnson. It also has flexible staging along with unique adjustable acoustic features.
The reverberation chamber envelops the platform end of the Hall and links with additional chambers that run along the sides of the Hall at high level. A series of huge concrete doors open from the Hall and can be adjusted to create the required degree of echo.
The Hall weighs an astonishing 32,000 tonnes and is founded on 120 concrete pillars!
Our tour will include all of these front of house features and also unique access backstage. There will also will be a special demonstration by an organ scholar.
Open to all - £10 members, £12.50 non- members by cheque payable to Arts Society Birmingham Evening
